Kayirebwa’s life, a Musical Celebration

Having cemented a firm ground in her reputation musically; right from composition, through recording and more so her live stages, well-known Cecile Kayirebwa again recently unveiled another musical experience that marked her 70th birthday, alongside Saint Cecile’s day, which is her patroness.

Entitled Igitaramo (Celebration) was unique wrap up for 2016’s Rwandan cultural music lovers. Hosted by Cecile Kayirebwa, a long time vocal mother for the Rwandan music fraternity, who since 1981 has continuously captured hearts through her music, the further embracing a larger audience locally and internationally, this evening which took place on November 20th at Kigali Serena hotel was a deeper cultural embrace to Rwandans and friends who turned up.

Right from the Inganzo Ngari, a prominent Rwandan traditional troupe’s performance, which ignited many to witness live tradition through dance, to Kayirebwa’s stage acts, which are characterized by not only her live vocal recites, but live engagement and embrace with her audience.

To the 70-year old artiste, it’s not about her, but more enjoys it when she gives stage to the younger to showcase how she has been inspirational through her life’s journey. Not only to artistes, but from the audience, any touched soul had a chance to testify, complement or even sing to some of Kayirebwa’s songs.

Performing too, were DR Congo’s Ibrahim Tamfum , Tito from Argentine,Tamon Oshimo from the US, among other instrumentalists, who astonished many with live intriguing skills through tunes.

Legendary Acts take Stage

Also live on stage, Igitaramo revealed legendary traditional artistes Massamba Intore, Muyango and Mariya Yahana who took the youth back in time. Then alongside new generation artistes musicians such as like Jules Sentore, Patrick Nyamitari, multi talented Eric Ngagare with live poetry fused with Afro soul verses to a fusion of the trumpet and guitar, while the quite talented Inganga player Deo Munyakazi too all left a lasting impression.
